Description: Myrrha, daughter of the Cyprian king Cinyras and mother of Adonas. She was inflicted with an incestuous love for her father and impersonated another woman in order to consummate it. Once her deception was revealed she fled, and was transformed into a myrrh tree. She appears here as partially feral, infected with the same rage as Gianni Schicchi. The engraver, Antoine Alphée Piaud (active 1837-1866), has placed his signature at the bottom right, while the artist Gustave Doré (1832-1888) has placed his signature at the bottom left.
