Description: Dante and Virgil come across a man crucified to the ground so that he will be trampled by the hypocrite procession. The two Tuscan hypocrites reveal that he is Caiaphas, the High Priest under Pontius Pilate, and that others of his ilk suffer similar fates. The engraver, Héliodore Pisan (1822-1890), has placed his signature towards the bottom left, while the artist Gustave Doré (1832-1888) has placed his signature at the bottom right.
