Description: Alessio Intermini of Lucca points out the shade of Thaïs, a courtesan from the Terence’s ancient Roman satire, Eunuchus. Apart from being a courtesan, she is accused of using excessive flattery with her client. The engravers, Francois Auguste Trichon (b. 1814) and Joseph-Julien-Guillaume Dulompré (b. 1789) have placed their signature at the bottom left, while the artist Gustave Doré (1832-1888) has placed his signature at the bottom right.
