Description: The eighth circle of Inferno, the Malebolge, is populated by the souls of the fraudulent. It is a barren place with nothing but iron-coloured rock and malevolent demons who constantly whip the bodies of the condemned. The engraver, Minne (active 19th c.), has placed his signature at the bottom right, while the artist Gustave Doré (1832-1888) has placed his signature at the bottom left.
