Image Title: Misers and Spendthrifts

Description: The fourth circle is occupied by misers and spendthrifts doomed to push rocks around the circuit of their level. The misers, condemned for hoarding their wealth, inevitably meet up with their free-spending counterparts, the spendthrifts, at the halfway point and must begin again. The engraver, Mme. Veuve Olympe Brux (active 19th century), has placed her signature at the bottom left, while the artist Gustave Doré (1832-1888) has placed his signature at the bottom right.
