Author: Holbein, Hans, 1497-1543.
Image Title: The Beggar
Description: A lame beggar sits outside a rich man's house, but the affluent who enter the home pay little attention to him or his deplorable condition. While the beggar wishes for death so that he will be relieved of his suffering, Death would take away the lives of those who find themselves content and comfortable, such as the rich who have just ignored the beggar. Engraved by Chrétien de Mechel (1737–1817) after the original design by Hans Holbein, the Younger (1498–1543).
