Image Title: Hand-Drawn Family Tree of the House of Saxony

Description: A left hand is inscribed with the family tree of the House of Saxony, and the name of progenitor King Sigurd (c. 636–690) appears at the base. The different fingers correspond to the different royal lines. From left to right, thumb to pinky, these lines are: the Ottonian dynasty, which ends with Holy Roman Emperor Henry II (r. 1014–24); French monarchs, up to Henry III (r. 1574–89); the House of Wettin, up to Christian II (r. 1591–1611); the Aleramici dynasty of Montferrat, which ended with John I (r. 1292–1305); and finally, the rulers of Savoy, up to Charles Emmanuel I (r. 1580–1630).
